Written by Cole Porter.

Recently I realized that my mid-tempo playing isn't really there, which seems strange since quick playing or slow playing is "OK". I picked this beautiful tune by Porter as a good example of something I find difficult to put together nice lines over and will perhaps re-record it a few times to see if I can do anything with it.

This was a quickie first take using my fingers (forgot the pick in my mouth).

  • Beautiful Job. I wish you'd play in Kansas City.

  • @dumas1983 Thanks, Dumas. I would love to play in Kansas. Got a gig for me? ;)

  • @hachamacha

I wish I did. Since I came to Kansas City, I'm out of the loop. I don't play anymore. If I do hear of anything, I will get in touch.

  • @dumas1983 Yeah, that is my story in a nutshell where I live at now. There's little to no jazz venue's here, so to gig and play what I want, I just play solo (no one will pay for 2 or 3), and go and talk to Bar, Cafe and Coffee Shop owners.

There are plenty of good/great players around here, but not so many get work doing anything Jazz-like.

A lot of this may be the timing:: When I started learning this stuff there were no cover charges in clubs, well, just a different time and feel.

  • COOL HACHA !!!!!!

  • @freddym223 Hey Freddy - Good to hear from you. Thanks much -

  • Yes, the economy always gets to musicians. My Dad used to tell me stories of musicians during the depression. His band actually were paid very little to do so, but the actually performed on the street to draw busines into the clubs. Weird.
