Hedlund is best imo.

Garm's black vocals aren't good? Did you miss the early Arcturus albums?

@gallan30 Yep, I mean, it's always like that, specific songs are specifically tailored for specific singers, just like in most bands and includes even Heavy Metal bands.
Like Iron Maiden, Blaze Bailey didn't sound good at all on songs that were originally sang by Bruce Dickinson but sounded great on his songs or Paul D'anno's songs (similar voice and tone).
The same can be true for many other bands, Vintersorg sounds better on the stuff he originally sang on and so on and so forth.

...but so are Vortex and Garm, Garm has probably one of the best clean voices EVER, but his growls/black metal vocals are not so good (they were on Ulver's black metal albums but it seems to have waned later)...
Vortex has an extremely good voice too and he can go pretty high but sometimes his voice sounds a little..."nasal" and/or forced.
Also, his growling/black metal vocals/screeching doesn't sound good at all.

I didn't know until not too long ago that people actually pick on Vintersorg's vocals? I like all 3, but Vintersorg has probably the most varied voice of all 3, he can do ANYTHING with his voice, he has the best growls/black metal vocals and then he can make his voice thick or otherwise really high...has ANYBODY actually heard him before joining Borknagar?
Like actually listening to Vintersorg and all his other projects? specially his solo stuff? his voice is unbelievable I think...

Garm. <3

To me Vortex and Garm sound kinda alike. Until recently I thought for the longest time Vortex did Sham Mirrors. Vortex is one of my favorite singers ever though so my opinion is biased on who I think is best :P

For me it's like:
1. Vortex (he has in-born epic timbre of voice and he is so talented)
2. Garm (he has original voice, i like it)
3. Vintersorg (he is not bad, but terrible live)

For me it's split between Garm and Vortex. Both have such distinguishable unique voices
blackhatch46, it's stupid to say that u listen to dimmu because of a bassist or a drummer.usually u tend to listen to a band because of the music they make.ur just mad because dimmu fired vortex :O this is hard, but Garm is the best. vortex is good too, but garm's clean vocals are smoother, and vortex goes higher and then lower far too often,it sometimes disturbs a little bit

Well they are all very talented. I think Garm is a brilliant studio musician but his voice doesn't translate well to live performances. The opposite is true for Vortex. In the studio, especially in Dimmu, they add too many effects to his voice, but live he uses a reverb effect and that is all. It is truly a brilliant experience. It is one thing to sit in your room listening to their voices, and quite another to stand 2 feet from the man as he towers above you on stage. ;) But to each his own!
