Back in 1998 I was standing inside of my house away from the windows when I heard what sounded like a paper bag tearing followed by one of the loudest thunderclaps I ever heard. The boom caused me to jump 3 feet into the air. Later I found out the "paper bag tearing" sound was from corona discharges.

@auto9898 Usually powerlines have fuses that explode when they're overloaded. They sould like cherry bombs when they go off.

Listen to any blank/unused AM radio during a storm with frequent lightning strikes, the effect is quite apparent.

Could the clicking be from the circuit breaker on the nearby power lines getting tripped by the lightning?
