Tesla did not mean limitless free energy. His coil required energy to transmit.

He simply stated that anyone could make a collecting antenna and receive Free Energy.

That energy would have to be generated at his site.

He was working on a wireless electric transmission system, not a magical free energy device.

If it created free energy he would not have needed the power station to run it.

He simply could have tapped his own source and use it to power the device.
