Allan do not use pull offs much, in fact he mostly lift off his fingers !
Allan actually detest the pull off sound "think meaw" that this technique gives, which is actually quite annoying in the long run !

@brwnhornet59 hes actually correct, holdsworth doesnt use pull offs in his legato playing he uses all hammer ons even when desending and so you call them hammer offs.
-
Yeah I just wanted to clear it up. Everyone who talks about Allan's legato playing calls it hammer off. Even Marshall does in his legato videos.

@shadowknight132 Arguments? Son, if you want to teach, teach correctly. There are some great self help books available as well as online information that can guide you in usage.. I have been listening to Allen since 77. I have been playing a similar style in fusion combining quartal harmony and bebop lines for many years. And I think it is wonderful that you want to edify people. Just try and use correct terminology please.
Peace

Alright, no more of these worthless arguments. I only put hammer off so that people would know that I'm talk about legato that Allan uses. I meant to have people watch this video and ask questions.

@shadowknight132 I will let all of my friends at the university know that they have it all wrong. Hammer on and pull off sir. Sorry to burst your bubble. I watched what you did. It is not rocket science. I think it is great that you are attempting to pass on knowledge. But get your terminology straight. There are a lot of noob's that have no idea of the difference. Peace

No pull off is when you pull the string. Hammer off is when you snap your finger and hammer on the string above.
-
@shadowknight132 No, That is called a "Pull Off"!

Yeah I know about his video. He didn't explain hammer off real good so I decided to shoot a quick video.
Quick update: After evaluating my playing, actually using this technique showed in the video doesn't work too well. What do need to do is pull off but pull off subtle like because if you pull yanking the stringing it'll bend the note up a little sharping the note. So just pull off slightly not pulling the string and you'll get a great sound.
