Super Mario Bros "Low Score" TAS

NOTE: This movie was played on an emulator using frame advance and savestates. It is for demonstration purposes only and is not supposed to be a legitimate speedrun.

This run of Super Mario Bros aims for the lowest possible score (700 pts) by not killing any enemies, grabbing the flagpoles with 0 seconds left, and only getting one unavoidable coin. Ten minutes of Mario standing next to the flagpole waiting for the timer to tick down was edited out.

If there is any way to avoid the coin in 8-1, please let me know. I tried that jump hundreds of times and I think it's impossible to do it without grabbing it.

@bikkubadmash Well don't get too impressed... not only do I have a better run up that finishes with 100 fewer points, but I'm using emulator tools to play the game as perfectly as possible. TAS runs still take skill to make, but it's a different kind of skill than speedrunning. It's more about finding clever glitches and manipulations than reflexes and speed.

Not to burst your bubble but there's a video showing that you can use a goomba (100 points) to jump across the jump in 8-1 without touching the coin (200 points). So I guess the lowest score you can get in SMB is 600 :)

Wasn´t there a "wall-jumping" glitch? I mean, you jump low, against the wall and then up and continue? just a suggeston.

hmm, never seen that version of walking thru the wall at the end of 1-2

@sk4g0d It's possible. The trick is to walk forward just enough so the goombas appear, and as they fall down into the pit jump on the third goomba to make it to the other side with 100 points less. There's also a video of it on youtube, watch?v=UUN2ss-LJ7U
