Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States (1923-1929), speaking on the issue of law and order in America.
Coolidge had first become nationally prominent for his handling, as Governor of Massachusetts, of the Boston Police Strike of 1919, and his popularity among rank-and-file Republicans led him to being nominated by the delegates at the Republican convention of 1920 for Vice President over the party boss' favorite, Senator Irvine Lenroot of Wisconsin.
