@jasonafg, clearly you have misinterpreted the message of Imam Hussain (as). Hussain's commemeration is not confined to a single day or even a single life. Hussain's message is perpetual because the message he preserved with his sacrifice is perpetual. When you take a glance at any corner of the world you see unimaginable oppression and merciless brutality, yet the majority watch and do nothing. We must not forget Ashura because "every day is Ashura and every land is Karbala", fight oppression.

I dont get this. Some Arab defended his family long time ago and we still have to follow that tradition. Its 21 century, we can appreciate it and learn from their bravery and we can celebrate it in better ways than beating your self. You can get your psychological need through other methods not beating your self and crying once a year.
