A memorable goal from Rodney Marsh and Francis Lee's 35th of the season helped City to beat Derby in their final game of the 71/72 season and go top of the league.
However Derby, Leeds and Liverpool still had games in hand and City finished 4th a point behind the champions Derby who beat Liverpool in their last game.
