As a politician, he made his political decision thinking about what is the best for the US. Despite what he says, he couldn't have cared less about the Japanese.
Now, that is one way of talking about this, but certainly not the only one. And there is no reason that everyone should talk from this viewpoint.
If you insist we talk politically, then more than likely that would only result in exchange of hate words as in other threads, and I am not interested in that.
@hayek218 No, it is a result of having read dozens of books from grade school to college & grad school & beyond. It is based on learning that Truman's other choices were far worse:
Compromise peace? J military retains power, plans Pacific War 2
Invade? 240,000 died on Okinawa; Kyushu's garrison was x7 larger. DO THE MATH
Blockade? How many j civilians (& 100,000 Allied POWs) would've starved before god/boy hirohito gave the order to surrender?
@hayek218 "Are you smoking something?" nope but I see you're really not interested as you will come back with a non sequitur and not an real and honest questions
Worse you can't even come back with any real objections to what I posted
@InPursuitOfALife The internment camps were FDRs responsibility

@hayek218 The issue is, what better choice did Truman have?

@hayek218: Wow you really do go out of your way not to answer direct questions don't you?

@kentamitchell
That depends on the issue of this discussion here.
Are we talking about justice, politics, history (as in academics), religion you believe or something else ?

Honestly speaking, I don't think I would ever expect a sensible answer that intellectually interest me from a person like you.
But if that happens, I will contact you...
