  • They starved to death. That is why their heads are in the comb and dead. Hopefully you put some fondant on top the the other hives to get them to spring!!

  • Thanks for your comments - I think that you are correct. I put it down to inexperience on my part. Hopefully I've learnt from it & it won't happen again.

  • It looks to me as if the bees starved. Should have had fondant over the hole in the crown board. Very sad. This was a trong nucleus in the summer, judging by the previous video. Better luck this year and congratulations on a well produced series of videos.

  • not enough food for the lost bee colonies'.

  • As long as the hive is solid & secure sufficient to allow the bees to maintain their heat in the cluster I don't think ghat there is a minum to. Obviously the colony has to to strong enough & disease free before going onto the Winter & they must have sufficient stored. If required I feed them bakers fondant as a liquid feed can cause illness over the winter. Good luck with your first hive.

  • Do you know how low the temperature can go for bees? Also, do you just give them a sugar/water solution during the winter? We are planning to buy our first beehive this year but know nothing about it!
