  • General Kuribayashi was a great man and also a kind one. His death is a great loss for Japan because he could have meant so much for the country. A pity his body was never found, but I am sure he rests in peace on that island and I prayed for him at Yasukuni Jinja and will again. Sleep well, Kaka

  • Very beautiful video!

Probably, now Kuribayashi is between the Gods!

  • Thats amazing! Woow! Where you found this letters from him and his Son?? My respect. I hope you can help me

  • How could 7 people dislike this? They have no respect for the dead

  • Rest in peace.

  • Does anybody know what happened to his pistol (Colt 1911) after he died? In the film it is taken by an American Marine.

  • @Salamanderkill

Although Germany had its economy rebuilt as well, similarly for Cold War interests.

  • I don't think many IJA generals had the balls to fight right inthe front lines with his troops. He gets respect from just that. I wished his underlings had listened to the general more then to just call it quits and become stubborn and do their own thing and stuff like that. R.I.P. General Kuribayashi.

  • A great general he may have been, just as there were on all sides of WWII, but the fact remains that they fought the war for their respective leaders and regimes. In the end they died with their honor, that is all.

Japan walked away from the war pretty easily (sorry the nuclear bomb excuse doesnt count, please read up on japanese atrocities). They retained their leader, were spared any humiliating re-education (see post war Germany), and had their economy rebuilt.

  • He is the reason I learned Jappanese.I wish he could have been my Sensai.
