What about Gambit and Rogue from the x-men. Marvel universe I know but they were key characters in the X-men and both of them from the South.

Sounds 'midwestern'? Who cares? There are plenty of jackasses in the midwest. ok, boreanaz is not a bad choice and I would except him as real life GL as well but ACCENTS are meaningless when it comes to denoting character. This is the crap that makes southerners almost always villains these days or idiots. Is their a southern hero anywhere at DC? Naturally, marvel has a couple. Of course, the New York accent has been villainnized as well.
