This video will show you how to simply enable momentum scrolling in an older mac with the Magic Mouse. (version 10.5.8).
The older macs, EX: mine...the mac mini G4 cannot upgrade to the newest MAC OSX...therefore the momentum scrolling was not included in the update for the Magic Mouse. I know I am repeating myself when I say this, but this video will help you enable the feature.

I personally like this scroll feature a lot.

Code:
defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse MouseMomentumScroll -bool yes

  • What is purpose of this effect?

    Just to be an effect?

  • Yep...

  • ok, and the purpose being, what affect is it supposed to have on someone?

  • It's simply a feature...nothing more. I know I like the scrolling type on my ipod. For people who want it on their mac as well...then here it is. If you don't see the point in it, then why waste your time watching the video?

  • Sorry, just read the code, the code says it only works with blue tooth mouses. so it wont, im going to google for one that works with the track pad.

  • @wutjusthapened try taking that part out...modify the code a bit...see if it works.

  • @CJCA915 hi there, great video. my scroll is not working and have tried this to. please can someone help me

  • Worked great - thanks. 5 Stars for sure.

  • Hi My sis Supposedly Broke our magic mouse for our mac and well it wont right click anymore and i was wondering how i can fix this part of the top if it is loose and when i press right click i dont hear a click like on the left click so is my mouse screwed or what?

  • @Nutz320 If you say so.

  • @CJCA915 Like I said, that's not the point! IF you scroll your paper upwards IRL, it slows to a stop, so IF you scroll on the computer, to imitate real life, it should slow to a stop too.

  • @Nutz320 Well, you said the feature is just like in real life, and I know of know that brings their paper to a slow stop... much less move it while they're reading...

  • @CJCA915 Yeah, you don't, but that's not the point. People(generally) don't go killing strangers IRL either, yet they play GTA.

  • @Nutz320 Well, every time Microsoft does something similar to Apple, they get a lawsuit by Apple, and are labeled as copying Apple...

Yea, if you push it and let it go, but I never usually push a piece of paper upward... no reason to.

  • @CJCA915 Just go to macvspc.info. It has a lot of information and links to loads and loads of studies, just take the time to read the site. Quite old though, but the problem is, MS never learns.

"How can it be the way it is in real life, compared to what in real life?"

If i push a piece of paper upward IRL, it slows to a stop. The page is the piece of paper. They even reverse the scrolling in Lion to make it more realistic (you can turn it off).

  • @Nutz320 I'd like to see these studies, etc. I learned Windows 7 from XP, faster than I did learning OS X for the first time...

Actually, I used OS X for a full semester for 3 hours a day my senior year in high school.

How can it be the way it is in real life, compared to what in real life?
