Nature also has it's place apart of the universal whole. We, humans, with the lack of knowledge and understanding-we have forgotten this. First, the concept of a higher power is fundamental to Transcendentalism. It may not be the Abrahamic conception of deity, but it's a form of deity, nonetheless. Second, Transcendentalism isn't about escapism, but about perceiving reality clearly, and we believe Nature can aid us to do this (while society often clouds it).
