DVD available at www.pennyallen.info Scene from feature film Property (1978), raunchy, unpredictable, populated with characters so real they threaten to pop off the screen (especially dwarf comic Cork Hubbert). A group of likeable eccentrics whose sense of their own culture sparks them to try to buy up their houses from developers.
Contradictions abound. Affectionate comic sense deftly captures the afterglow of a generation.

  • I rented a VHS of Property abut 10 years ago. Does anybody know the actual neighborhood where this was filmed? Was it what was left of South Portland (Lair Hill) after that awful urban renewal binge?

  • Most of the exterior views of the neighborhood were filmed in the area near the Ross Island Grocery.

  • This scene was photographed in Arthur Cheesman's flat on SE 10th and Washington. Downstairs was PHANTASMAGORIA, his pioneering hippy antique/vintage clothing shop.

  • This is an historic film about the golden years of Portland's 'counter-culture' with a coterie of performance artists. This clip features Cork Hubbert who went on to success in Hollywood features such as "Legend", "Under the Rainbow" and "Caveman". Sadly, he died in 2004 of kidney failure. He will be missed!
