Driving around East St. Louis, Illinois after the opening ceremonies for Bi-State Metrolink. An intense thunderstorm had just passed over the 'city'. In 1960 82,000 people lived here. In 1990 it was 41,000. Today its 27,000. Ride Metrolink to the and see what an inter-urban light rail train running through open country is like. the tracks are not pristine and the car shakes around.

  • This almost looks like one of those "The World After People" documentaries …or at least a city without a single lawn mower. Nicest thing is the train. I've read that ESL was once very beautiful.

  • What's the name of the song that is playing in the video...it's very haunting, but nice

  • What a Great area to bring the Metal Detector :) QC

  • dats bak when it was a booming murderous city

  • Gloomy is right - and not just the weather. Has the Metrolink brought any improvements to the area?
