  • Apostrophe, for the bass line intro, played by Jack Bruce. 1973 I don't care that much for the rest of the song, but its my favorite bass passage.

  • 1974

  • that's why i said its him. nobody else could play like that. well at least that style

  • This song brings back great memories of growing up in the 1970's. Apostrophe is best described as a super bad ass 70's jam song. Jack Bruce cranks out probably the greatest bass solo in rock history. He shreds his 6-string bass the whole time and its fresh the entire way. Frank does great work on the guitar and the drumming is top notch too. This is a tasty and tight jam!

  • of course it's Jack Bruce all the way. Nobody but nobody plays bass like that! Nobody can put the instrument so far forward, show that kind of dexterity, and have that tone. Besides, I read an interview with Zappa where he confirms Jack plays - but that Zappa hated it. I think it was typical Zappa sour grapes when someone could actually put him in his place - muscially speaking.

  • great track. i'm a bass player & have been for 30 years nearly, and prefer the work of Lemmy on Hawkwind's - 1972 " Do Remo Fasol Latido ", particularly on " Time We Left " .. i think it bashes Bruce's fuzz bass all over the head with a big stick. - far more wilder and energetic.just my opinion, and ya know what they say about opinions though. everybody's got one. anyhow search youtube for " Doremi Fasol Latido " if you're curious

  • Jack Bruce is a guitar player with a bass guitar in this song. Sure, it's a great solo, but it's a guitar solo (and I'm not saying that because of the distortion, true bass players should understand what I'm saying).

  • 8th grade, did find out the master....

  • If there is or was ANY EMNITY between these two, one sure cannot tell from this tune! Just off the chain!!

  • I don't know about the relationship between Frank and Jack Bruce but this song is bad ass, probably my favorite cut off the album aside from 'Uncle Remus'.

  • I can hear why Zappa hated this. Bruce has said Zappa's music was awful and here he seems to want to subvert the whole thing, especially Frank's solo, with bass distortion having none of his usual depth and richness. No attempt to pin the roots and cutting through everything like a bluebottle gone berserk with a buzzsaw. Oh it's deliberate, all right. It's a musical "fuck this shit" message to Frank.

  • Zappa was a true freak

  • @robertzm Bruce played a Fender Bass VI in the mid 60's which was tuned like a standard guitar only an octave lower. The Fender Bass VI was small like a guitar, used heavy guitar strings rather than bass strings and was tuned E-A-D-G-B-E a while regular 6 string Bass is tuned B-E-A-D-G-C. From his Cream days on I wasn't aware he played it any more.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRANK ZAPPA!
