Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest lake, was facing an ecological disaster. For the past 20 years the lake's water level has been decreasing rapidly, and it is becoming increasingly contaminated.
For a long time the rainy season 2003 was a bad one. But in the last few weeks (from August on) it rained a lot and the level of Lake Chapala has risen dramatically! The rainy season 2004 was plentyfull, too and we hope for a good one in 2006!
If the trend continues, it could fill Lake Chapala completely this year!
We can see already the positive effects: Tourism is booming, the local economy is celebrating record sales and the future looks bright.
But we have to keep on defending our lake so that it never becomes endangered again! Too much is at stake!

The Sociedad Amigos del Lago (Society Friends of the Lake) was founded in 1990 to help find solutions to the problems threatening Lake Chapala, and to build the public awareness and political pressure necessary to get these solutions implemented. Please continue to learn more.

les recomiendo visiten el lago, porque ahorita ya está poca madre el malecon, lo acaban de arreglar, y el lago ya sin lirio se ve más genial. :D

lo mismo esta pasando en todo el mundo, aca en cali(fornia)pasa lo mismo en nuestros lagos y depositos..esto es debido al calentamiento global...:(
