This is a recording of a prototype version (although I think early translation is the better wording) of Phantasy Star 4. I will not provide information on how to obtain this and any such comments will be erased. A Japanese prototype will be what will really reveal a lot more about this game. At one point the dungeons were supposed to be played out in first person mode.

  • what part is a prototype? i see everything the same. you can imput a name at the start of the game dude......

tisk for trying to trick me.

  • This is an early translated script. Check the final version again, better yet, just look at what Alys is called here (skip to a battle sequence and you'll see what I mean)

  • The intro story is really awkward to read. I've played some of this version. There are a lot of odd little differences. But overall i'm glad they cleaned up the translation as it was a very weird read from time to time.

  • Phew, I'm glad they brushed up the script before the game's release. The dialogue in this version is pretty rough at times. In a literal sense that makes it closer to the original Japanese script, but when it comes to translation, that's not always a good thing.

  • The end of the intro is one of the most bizarre, incoherent statements I've seen.

  • Interesting.. the second half of the intro (post the title splash) is completely differently worded, as is the prologue after you leave Aiedo (and that one's baaaad engrish).

Interesting to see at one point they were leaving the names the same as the JPN version, though "Ryre" is a horrible romanization. I want to read it as "Re-re", and that's just wrong. :lol

I could see Lyre, which might work better than Alys, but I like Chaz over Rudy, personally.

Few other minor dialogue changes too

  • If you guys notice, the intro text is also considerably longer and the music cuts out before the intro is complete. This is an oddity considering how simple it would be to loop the music, but yet it plays to a conclusion anyway, suggesting the developers never planned for the possibility of such a long intro. I can only imagine the translation team had little choice but to do some text trimming to account for this. Glad they decided to go with better names in the end, as well.

  • Rudy and Ryre, huh?

  • there are 5 english translation prototypes of PS4, from 30th may 1994, 8th june 1994, 15 august 1994, 27th october and finally 7th november 1994. i have them all :)

  • I'm so glad nobody in the game is named Ryre.

  • Actually, Rudy was the original name for Chaz in the Japanese version.

  • in this game you cant input ANY names
