The Amazing Andrei Batalov shows why he deserved to win the Grand Prize in the 1997 Moscow Ballet Competition, defeating an older and more experienced Nikolai Tsiskaridze . In this video, Batalov is dancing the variation of Solor from the second act of La Bayadere in the Kirov Mariinsky Ballet production.

One of the best for sure although I`m not an expert in this matter but I would like to add that
Mr. Mikhail Barishnikov danced for almost 2 hours, solo in Rio de Janeiro at 2011.

1969 was the first time for Int'l Ballet Competition in Moscow and they didn't invent Grand Prix yet.
Baryshnikov would have beaten Fukagawa anywhere Japan included because he is the greatest ballet dancer of the 20th century.

It does not seem he has gone to Mikhailovsky - listed still at Mariinsky...

@russianballetvideo OMG! Let's hope that he will continue dancing at least at the Mikhailovsky! Such a crime he was mistreated like this by the MT!! I just cannot understand it, why would you prevent such talented dancer from becoming a great star, and hence a lure for the public! It is also the MT interest! Ivanchenko is NOT at his level, nor other of the male dancers in the MT or in any other company! In any case, thank you so much for the information and for these wonderful unique videos!

How is it possible that I heard only yesterday about this guy????!!!!!! He is THE BEST male dancer I've seen since Rukhzimatov... He has such a control, perfect turn and jumps, amazing figure (also for princely roles, I guess, he looks quite tall). He seems also to be an excellent partner, although I have not seen many videos of him actually partnering! :( Where can we find MORE of this guy?? I have seen the DQ you have, russianballetvideo, and the pdd with Obraztsova and that is mainly it.

What could be better? How could anyone be more effortless than him? One never gets the feeling that even the slightest error will occur because he is so amazing.

After reading some of the comments, I come to the conclusion that this guy was just left behind due to only personal reasons from the ex Kirov Mariinsky ballet director, right??? So unfair for Batalov. I have not experienced this feeling of efortless jumps, perfect jumps, etc in ANY of the other Mariinsky male dancers, not in Malakhov, not Bolle... So I cannot think of any male dancer better than him... He is now quite old, right? Maybe 35, so I guess his time is practically gone now.

@natashkk Rumors are that his final performance was on July 21 as Ali in Le Corsaire. The rumors are that he will coach for Mikhailovsky Ballet. Hopefully, he will dance with them sometimes, but his career at Mariinsky seems finished. He is 36 or 37 and Evgeny Ivanchenko graduated in the same class with Batalov and Batalov was the star of their class by a wide margin. Ivanchneko is not retiring and he is the worse dancer by a wide margin & has been a principal for a long time, being much taller

Amazing. SO AMAZING! I want to be like him. Do you know how old he is now?? Because he isn't a principal dancer is he? He should be!
