This is a really old folk song that dates back to the 1700s. It's actually so old that nobody really knows who originally wrote it. The story and lyrics mostly stay the same but it has been played and recorded in a number of different styles including blues, country, traditional Irish folk music and it's a popular folk song in Canada. It was made famous by Bob Dylan in his 1992 album, Good as I been to you.
