  • No I don't have the show...funny..A few weeksago there was a little discussion going on at newsgroup alt.music.golden-earring. Discussion was about Golden Earring performances in US TV shows like Don Kirschner and Midnight Special...So coincidence or not...a few weeks after this discussion you put this earring gem on the net..I was very suprised and happy to see it...Sound & Vision are not that good..but I like this raw life version of Grab it for a second...

  • I pulled this show from an old vhs tape to dvd. The quality isn't all that great but it's nice to have an archived copy now. I hope to post the rest of the show up soon.I agree I like this raw version as well.

  • This video is from an US TV SHOW called THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL aired: 11/24/1978

    Peformers:

TED NUGENTguest host)Cat Scratch fever,Free for All,Need You Bad & Stranglehold

REO Speedwagon-Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight

    AC/DC -Sin City

    THIN LIZZY-Cowboy Song

    CHEAP TRICK-Surrender & California Man

GOLDEN EARRING-Grab It for a Second

    AEROSMITH-Come toghether

  • You are correct.........Do you have this show BTW?

  • Great stuff. Where did you get it? It's a pity that Gelling left the band, because this recording proves his sound was a real addition to the Earring

  • I have all kinds of old stuff.....some of it's hard to find.I'm gonna try to get more of it up.Thanx for the comments!

  • @harriebee saw this whole show when it originally aired when I was a kid.Didn't know who was going to be on that Friday's show.Blew this kid away at the time seeing some of his favorite bands on one show.

  • Eelco Gelling can really rip on guitar. It's a shame that the Earring and Gelling couldn't make it work together for a long period of time. What Mick Taylor was to the Stones, Gelling sure could've been for the Earring.

  • i remember seein GOLDEN EARRING, on THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL I WAS 17 & they play'd RADAR LOVE! where the drummer jumps over his drums!

  • Bowie speaking-singstyl came from Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground -- the GE are only at 1 LP underground (Eight Miles High)

  • Golden Earring are their own Kathegorie ! NL Energie with a US touch. :D

The Sparks are so spezial, they are not kompatible with any band: but they are a matrix for pet Shop Boys and and...I saw Sparks;they make little Kabarett too by their show: befor few years in Heidelberg

And Bowie??Androgyn looking and singing - the Goldens are not Glam !(GE was on Tournee with Ted )Nugent

  • I love Earring and appreciate these gems being posted: thanks to all concerned. I don't understand the association with heavy metal shite like Ted Nugent et al. I think that Barry and the boys have more in common with the likes of Bowie, Sparks and Mott the Hoople. Definately the thinking man or woman's rock band; just a thought.

  • They also played a song, Against The Grain on that show.I love that song and have the Album Grab It For A Second

  • great liveperformance with Eelco, nice video !!!! 8 stars

    luc

  • Tnx for sharing it...I'm looking forward to see Lizies Cowboy song !! Never seen the midnight special version before. Sin City from the same Tv show(On youtube elsewhere) is also great. I believe it was AC/DC's first ever US TV-appearance (announced by the one and onlys Nungent&Tyler)
