The year is 1913. Your family wants to spend Christmas with your parents in Dallas. Do you get in the car and drive? No, there is another alternative. The Texas Interurban Railway!

  • No but we are researching on it at the moment. Once we have all the information we will do a video on it and post it on the Waxahachie Journal

  • Waxahachie is the most beautiful place on earth. I would know.

  • Do you have anything of the MKT?

  • This is just great. I can remember riding the interurban as a very small child. The railway ran through my family's farm near Italy, Texas. When the interburban shut down my Dad purchased the right of way through his land and we used the roadbed as a road. For many years we would uncover old rail spikes from the road. Today if you were to tear through the asphalt of main street Italy you would find the steel tracks of the interurban still in place. Thanks for the memories!

  • Thank you so very much for posting !

  • The bridge may be gone but the old roadbed between Waco and Waxahachie is still visible on satellite photos.

  • My paternal grandfather's first job was on the interurban.

He was born in 1900 and lived in Waxahachie. His father died when he was 13 or 14 and he had to go to work to support the family.

As an aside, I also remember him telling me about seeing Ty Cobb and the Detroit Tigers who held spring training in Waxahachie.
