What most people don't seem to understand is that 13 days is minimal... you need at least 2 weeks to acclimatise to altitude otherwise you could develop HAPE or HACE at altitudes above 17,000', due to lack of oxygen in the air. When you are doing a sport as radical as this, it would be necessary to have all of your wits about you and you develop hypoxia in under 5 minutes above 12,000'. The effects of hypoxia at the very least make you retarded and drunk to about 0.08...
