You'd be surprised how small the interior of a BMW 5-series was, at that time.
Besides this Volvo here, cars which have a lot of interior space, were the Audis of that era, 100/A6, and surely the Opel Omega.

my Uncle have 1996 model years, they told me "this car is "fat guy friendly" more than BMW or another Japanese sedan in the same size.
