I agree with you there. I don't think the UN is a good solution. I think any nation would get the assurance of knowing lines of communication were open across the world to share scientific information to do everything from avert nature disasters to test new technologies for safety, for example. Or have a regular meeting to just keep everyone updated on what's going on. One country has a famine, they get violent, invade another, we can avert that beforehand by getting them food. Etc.

When the vote of a "member" nation with a very meager population---and little to no monetary contribution---can cancel the vote of a member nation with 100s of millions of people (that contributes a billion in membership dues) than "the system" is flawed. Such is the General Assembly.

What direct benefit does America (and the average American) get from UN membership?

But we still need to realize that there are many respects in which borders are irrelevant, and even counterproductive, and have means of solving problems that affect the entire planet (pollution, population issues, resource-management, ecological maintenance, etc.), especially if small areas/nations' individual actions (under their local conception of rights, for example) threaten the globe, or if the globe entirely is threatened.

The Earth is one, (for all intents and purposes) closed system.

America has the US Constitution and an armed citizenry: we have no NEED for the UN---to "give" us rights, or to govern us. Patriotic Americans do not bow down to the mandates of a foreign government. As a nation, we need to quit funding this corrupted organization, quit our membership in it, and remove its Headquarters from our country.
