The fifth and final installment in a five part series of videos (and the second of two model railway themed videos), filmed on Saturday 15th August 2009 at the Great Garratt Gathering at the Manchester Museum of Science & Industry.

In the Power Hall, a live steam 16mm layout called Ttarrag Shed was in operation. The layout, owned by the 16mm Garratt Owners & Operators Association, had a variety of Garratts; most were based on prototypes such as the NGG16 and K1, while some were freelance. The circular layout saw many of the locos (a mix of coal and gas fired) running at regular intervals.

Thanks to the 16mm Garratt Owners & Operators Association, for permission to have their layout recorded.

  • Around the 43-44 second mark, there's a really nice timber wagon. Can you tell me more about that? I'd like to build some of these for my own 16mm live steam Garratt to pull and would love to talk to the builder/owner about getting some detail photos and critical dimensions. Many thanks! Trevor in Toronto, Canada

  • StinksAndBangs, I'd love to help you out, but unfortunately I don't model in 16mm gauge, so I couldn't really be specific about the wagon. I'm not sure if it's scratchbuilt or ready made. Thanks for asking anyway.

  • Superb video David, well done....Bob
