When I first got the "Asylum" album in '85, I thought "Secretly Cruel" sounded almost like an old KISS song. So when Sagafoo of sagafoo.com asked me to do a track for his upcoming tribute album, "Got To Foo", I thought I'd take this '80s song back to the '70s.

Upon completing the track I thought a video would be a great companion piece. So I set about getting an airplane hangar for a six-camera shoot complete with tracks, dollies and crane, a 27-man crew and a full arsenal of pyrotechnics. Then at the last minute I decided to just do it with my HandyCam in my house using a high stool as a tripod (quadrapod?). Less paperwork this way, plus I'd already spent my budget ($30) on makeup. The results speak for themselves.

As usual I feel it my duty to announce that no other human was involved directly in the creation of this piece ("piece of what?" you might ask). However, my cat Chuck was alternately supportive and disruptive so I gave him a little cameo. I'd also like to thank Beas for the use of his cowbell (Toca #3325T) as well as the nice lady at Pacific Northwest Costume in Bremerton, WA for not laughing too hard. And lastly, I want to thank Dustin Garrett - had he not bought the "Asylum" album for me on the day of its release, I would've probably had to wait another week or two.

Enjoy and please visit me at www.myspace.com/doublevirgo.

DoubleVirgo loves you. Rock and Roll.

  • It sounds like ladies Room with a hint of Christine Sixteen! You are a genius. Only a KISS fan can duplicate what the band can not!

  • @ruissman Yeah, there's a bit of all those in there. Also some 'Sweet Pain', 'Plaster Caster' and 'Ladies In Waiting' amongst others. In my opinion, Gene's songs were very cool during this period. I just tried to grab some of the 'stylistic trademarks' as it were. Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you like it.

  • again. need to post this. this is a true classic. hope to hear more...also the killer was cool. you are the best man. Many thanks for this.

  • @janvare Thank you very much. You have been very supportive since the beginning, I truly appreciate that. I can tell you that I just completed another song for a project but I don't think I can share any details yet. I will let you know as soon as I can. Thanks again!

  • in the studio, what kind of filter is put on the voice to give it that effect? i'm assuming it's a combination, with some EQing the lows out for starts?.... (please tell!)

  • @caseyforever To be honest, I don't recall what I did and unfortunately I lost the original session in a tragic hard drive crash. I know there's a bit of EQ and delay. Probably the 'Male Vocal 1' preset on my KORG D3200. I'm not the most skilled audio engineer so it would be like me to use something 'safe' like a preset. Sorry I couldn't be more specific but thanks for showing an interest.

  • @doublevirgo68 the beginning´s like plaster caster followed by ladies room sort of, good job dude

  • I Love those dressed up like kiss and singing their songs

  • Brilliant ! You have done so well with this. The vocals, the cowbell, the acoustic guitar underneath the distortion, even the tone of the guitars is perfect. Fun clip too ! 10/10 for all of it !

  • i usually don't like kiss covers or when they dress as kiss.

But this is GOD! song & video.

  • what a great cover.

  • holy crap i love it. this is fkn awesome

  • More Cow Bell..!!!!

  • Yeah, this did sound very much like a '70s KISS song. Same goes for "When Your Walls Come Down" and "Heaven's On Fire" and a few others I'm forgetting.

  • The cowbell made me smile. Hahahaha Love this!
