Paradise Alley appearing on the Group W Cable program "That Silly Variety Show" in 1983 Here they perform an original composition by Ashley Underwood entitled "Lady (Can't You See What You've Done)" which was written after the brother of a close friend of his committed suicide.
The band featured Athena Chappel on vocals, Ron Sallee on Guitar, Russ Tinnin on Bass, Ashley Underwood on Keyboards and Dale Gisher on Drums. Ashley and Ron had put the band together after leaving former MCA Recording Artist, Mary Burns.
This was the show's first episode, and was not without it's problems and surprises. The band came to the studio under the impression they were to do 2 songs and that comedian George Wallace would be the feature of the program. Upon arrival they were told that the segment with Wallace would only run about 5 minutes and that they were the feature of the show and had to fill up the rest of the time. So they added one more original to the two they had prepared, and did 3 cover songs.
The performance is entirely live, and was done immediately after setting up, a brief level check and change of clothes. The sound was mixed on the fly (such was the state of low budget cable programs in the early 80's).
This video is a copy of an old VHS tape, so the quality is not the greatest, but it is still an interesting time capsule of the band.
