Taken Sat 13th march 2010 on the first day of an exhibition of rare photographs of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Bed-in for Peace in Montreal in Coventry Cathedral. Brilliant even our 2 daughters (9 & 12 years old) loved it.
The pictures were taken by photographer Gerry Deiter in the week John and Yoko were in the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, in Montreal, campaigning for peace in 1969. He was the only photojournalist there the entire eight days with complete access. His assignment was for Life Magazine, but his story was bumped in favour of one about Vietnam. The photos never ran. Deiter hid them away. This is why many of the images are not familiar. He captured the celebrity visitors, the action and intimate behind-the-scenes moments between John and Yoko.
Coventry Cathedral is the perfect location to host an exhibition centred on peace. Coventry and her cathedral have attracted international peacemakers from around the world for more than 60 years
A room showing a film from the event is also a very moving experience.
Well done all involved. It runs till 3rd May. If you can, GO!
.
Thumbs up!!
