We have a huge health and environmental scandal in our modern industrial system of meat and poultry production. The damage documented in today's factory farms far exceeds the damage that was depicted in Upton Sinclair's novel, The Jungle, a book written over 100 years ago. Some scientists have gone so far as to call the condemned current factory farm practices as "mini Chernobyls."
The European Union stands virtually alone in establishing strong health and environmental standards for the industry. In the U.S and elsewhere, the meat and poultry industry is dominated by dangerous uses of arsenic, antibiotics, growth hormones and by the dumping of massive amounts of sewage in fragile waterways and environments. This video documents the vast catastrophic impact on the environment and public health.
As one observer noted, if terrorists did this, we would be up in arms, but when it is a fortune 500 company, it is just "business as usual."
In 1906, public outrage at the scandal exposed by Sinclair led to major reforms that cleaned up a corrupt and dangerous system.

  • So your telling me the chicken I eat has the flu?

  • @lucklyclover58 These animals are living in such stressed and filthy conditions they are all sick in some form. The finished product has arsenic in it. I believe it covers this in the next clip or two. Eating animal products is like playing Russian roulette.

  • The US Government is totally complicit in this but as long as Americans eat food that they know or don't care is industrially farmed at most fast food restaurants, many restaurant chains (Applebees, Olive Garden, Outback, and probably even Ruth's Chris Steakhouse) or conventional grocery stores, industrialized farming will continue. Buy local, eat organic, and you will have to eat at home and cook a home cooked meal most of the time!! Restaurants with organic food is still pretty limited!

  • This is sick. Factory Farming sucks big time. The government in this country is working for the Factory Farms not the animals. The govenment in this country is so greedy that then don't care about animals or the people that live near them. Most meat today now comes from factory farms. I will never eat beef, pork and I will begin to stop eating chicken altogether now. I'm going on a meat-free diet.

  • America might be a world superpower in terms of military power, but the fact is America has a 3rd World country food system compared to Japan and Norway.

  • gaaah! I want to see the whole thing! Stop cutting it.
