According to many online sources, Bridge Over Troubled Water was wriiten by Paul Simon about his wife. The "sail on silver girl" part refers to a time when she was upset over the fact that white hairs were growing on her head. Paul Simon said this in an interview. This song certainly hasn't got anything to do with drugs ...it's just a beautiful heartfelt love song.

It was also about how his wife was going to die and she was 'sailing off' to heaven and that he would be 'sailing off' behind her! the 'there is pain all around' part refers to the greif he and the family (and others) felt when she past, its a very sad song and has nothing to do with drugs!
