This is a preview of the documentary "Returned: Child Soldiers of Nepal's Maoist Army"

Imagine being forced to leave your family and fight in a war you don't understand - and you are only eleven years old. Sadly, for many of these child soldiers in Nepal this is a reality and the peace process has not solved their problems. These children quickly discovered that the return home is even more painful than the experience of war.

"Returned" is a feature length documentary that follows several Nepali child soldiers including Asha, a young Nepali girl, who was sent home from the Maoist's People's Liberation Army after the cease fire. Asha joined the Maoist army when she was 14-years-old. For this young low caste girl, joining the Maoist was a pathway to a future with education and employment. Despite two years of being on the frontlines, her biggest concern was what would await her when she returned home.

"Returned" weaves the voices of Nepal's child soldiers, their military leaders, and aid worker together in a search to understand why children join armed groups, while exploring ways to prevent further recruitment.

  • no comments,i feel all these stuffs goes on in the world not juz over in nepal coz of desparation of ones needs; i think,so i have no words to further elborate the stiuation, what i have learned is its human nature to survive and its sort of like instinct, animal cant go against his instinct can we ?so whether it is maiost, capitalist, communist, democrats, republics or oraginsation, community, individual its their nature to survive at all cost,nn so what are everybody trying?i guess u knw the answer

  • the quality of this clip seems A+.....but there are certain bias mentioned which I would like to ignore for now coz I myself haven't seen the whole documentary....but this is a gr8 topic....keep up the good work...YoZeN

  • this clearly states that most kids joined because of the economic conditions and lack of education. None of the kids says that they joined to become a martyr.

  • This is a trailer for a full length documentary. The full film does not dispute that most people joined the Maoists because of poor economic conditions. In fact, it asserts that this is the case. The subject of the documentary is the difficulties these children face in reintegrating into a peace time society after having served as soldiers at such a young age. Do you consider that to be a mole hill?

  • This is simply exaggeration. In other words making a mountain of a mole hill. Its not that they join the maoist amry bcoz they are driven by the thoughts of wanting to become a martyr for their country, its just that they are forced or bcoz of the economic conditions at home.
