I paid $23 to check luggage, and see what Delta did to my duffel bag as a result!

I flew on Delta Airlines from Harrisburg to Atlanta earlier today. When I got my bag off the conveyer belt, it looked like this.

Even more disconcerting was the reaction of the Delta baggage department. A nice clerk told me that a six-year-old bag would only warrant 40% toward the replacement cost. When I told her I thought that was inadequate, she got the supervisor, who looked the bag over, said, "We're not responsible for broken handles" and crossed her arms. Then she said, "This is fixable. Here's a fedex form. Send it to our company. They'll fix it."

I was like, "What? Did you see what was done to this bag?"

Also, this was the second time in a month Delta had destroyed a bag of mine. The last time,I made the mistake of waiting till I returned to the airport to report it. "If it's not reported within 48 hours, we are not responsible," they said.

Delta is saying they are improving customer service. Apparently that memo hasn't reached Baggage Services.

I work for delta as a baggage handler and I sorry that you bag was damaged. However, Please do not blame us 100%, your bag was most likely damaged on a on of the bag room belts another your strap was caught on something dragging your bag in one place till another bag it it. Breaking the strap. this most likely happened during the TSA check. When ever i have to put a duffel bag on a belt it MUST be put into a plastic bin so is is not damaged. AGAIN DONT BLAME THE RAMPERS!

i was in atlanta but using airtran.. first off my bag didnt even make it on the plane the first time...and then when i got it back later that night they handed it to me with the strap broken like yours and with a bunch of freaking hole in the bottom! must be atlanta...
