1) Cape Canaveral launch of 30-pound Explorer satellite by 3-stage Redstone missile, press conference with von Braun and Van Allen with model, night time launch showing spinning satellite on top of rocket
2) "Egypt, Syria Merge In New Arab Republic" - Nasser and Shukri al-Kuwatli of Syria meet in Cairo to form UAR with 30 million population, sign at table - mideast (partial newsreel).

  • Fantastic! The Jupiter rocket bit was what I was looking for, but the U.A.R footage was a bonus :-)

    First, a U.S. Ballistic Missile gets it's first Succesfull launch in Cape canaveral... and then... News from the ARAB world (with those oh so ballistic minarets in the background! Oh! and in the middle, there's good ole Werner Von Braun, the Nazi missile genius, now great chum of the Americans, and cozily salaried by the US govt.
