  • I think strings can make a huge difference though also. I like DAdarrio's or Elixir's personally. I've got some Fenders on my 710 now and their too "warm/dark/bland" for me. So I'm going back to what I've always had.

  • Hmmm...well I think it may have opened up a little bit...but I was super happy with it from day one...plenty of projection, loved the feel of the neck and the "brighter" tone. Some people don't like Taylor's for the very reasons that made them stand out to me. When I was playing comparable Martin's they sounded "dead" to me not "warm" and the neck felt too "clunky" and made me have to work harder. This was also over a decade ago though so not sure where the new Taylors and Martins are at.

  • I have the newer version of this guitar the one with the expression system and let me tell you it has a wonderful tone

  • @peterpulpitpounder

What ever that Martin was that I had was great sounding but still cheap enough that if a kid climbed up on stage and knocked it over or broke it I would only cry hours instead of days. :-) But...like I said, I had to A/B them for a while. You can have 6 guitars of the same model and not like 5 out of the 6. I've found (and had) guitars that I bought for beating up that were only a 100. that blew me away. I lost a Yamaha like that. (sad story, lol)

My 310 has the newer "expression" system in it so I think it sounds better than the fishman if that's what he had and I think that's the case. However I was hooked on the guitar "unplugged". Martin still being my favorite I use to use a Martin cut-away that I actually put a dual system pick up in. Now those same guitars come with them now. However...I don't remember the model. I think I A/B'd about 4 of them before I found the one I liked. DCX1E would be close to it now.

I really appreciate your comments. I like the guitar, and may be acutely sensitive to its sound, it being new and all, but I'm leaning heavily toward the Martin department, as I think I prefer more in the low end realm. It's been sort of a learning experience for me. Do you have a recommendation for me? (acoustic electric). Glad to hear you are using this guitar to lead people in worship. Your reward will be great in heaven. Amen.

  • @peterpulpitpounder I'm an Old time Martin player (owner) and usually didn't like the the Taylor sounds until I found this model hanging in a guitar store in Salt Lake on a biz trip. It sounded warm right off the bat which surprised me. Left it (with regrets) and went back a couple months later and it was still there so I bought it and it is my main worship leading guitar. It does seem to get even warmer over time. I run it through a Roland AC-90. No effects other than an occasional delay.

  • Tell me, did this guitar actually "open up" over the years, it is this just a myth? I just bought the same, and I'm not sure I like it. I think I should have gone the Martin route, as I like a bit more warmth and projection.
