The Sinclair and later Amstrad Spectrums are emulated up to the 128 and even 1987's +3 model. Some 256 color games are mixed into this demo although it'll be difficult for most people to tell the difference.

You can clearly see how this was in no way serious gaming competition to the C64 of Atari 800. Like the C128, you can run CP/M on the later models.

  • I think specy was cheaper then the C64 and was more popular in the UK and Eastern Europe.

Plus they could run CP/M a big plus back then.

Though the C64 was over all more powerful but the quality of a lot of games really depended on the skills of the programmers to take advantage of what tricks a given machine had to offer.

  • That's right. I didn't hear about the speccy until the Amiga came along... A lot of the best amiga magazines were from Europe and vendors mentioned the specy a lot.

  • Man, Elite really sucked on the C64. When we finally got it on the Amiga, it was absolutely beautiful. The game really sucked you in then.

  • I don't think you realise that the Spectrum ruled the UK computer market for a long time, easily outselling the C64, Atari 800, etc. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE ZX SPECTRUM!

  • Technically this machine sucked, but was cheap and had some incredibly playable games. ELITE was faster then the C64 version thanks to it's 3.5Mhz Z80....

  • IS THERE A TV-OUT VERSION OF GP2XPECTRUM ???

    .

  • One bad point about speccy emulation is that you don't always get the loading graphics. They were a big aspect of the ZX Spectrum, ... often when a game failed to load loading graphics is all you got!

  • only because it was cheaper...

  • wtf why did i say that? lolz true most spectrum ports were slower but the Amstrad's Z80 processor was actually clocked slightly faster. (only about half a megahurt though).

But it had a much bigger job moving things around the screen, more colours + bigger resolution = more work to do. ^^

  • LOL that thing was so slow it killed most of the gameplay.

  • There are no 256 colour games on this as GP"pectrum does not support 256 colour.

Also, the Spectrum was serious competition to the C64 and beat it in terms of sales in the UK, and possibly Spain too.

  • i have to admit that several games like 'creatures' is a wonderful c64 game, but others like 'The sacred armour of Antiriad" is better in Spectrum than C64. Anyway, its depends on how the programmer takes the most out of the computer.
