Take off your shoes and pat your feet with the Rationals! This soul-singing, guitar-slinging quartet was huge in the Ann Arbor and Detroit areas in the late 60s and enjoyed a minor national hit with their version of Otis Redding's "Respect."

Here are the best songs from their self-titled 1969 album on the Crewe label:

1) "Barefootin'"
2) "Handbags & Gladrags"
3) "Temptation 'Bout to Get Me"

  • Three best songs from The Rationals self titled LP on Crewe records:

    1. Guitar Army

    2. Sunset

    3. segues between songs

  • Don't forget the dead air in the trail-off vinyl on side 1: it's awesome.

  • I have never heard or even knew that the Rationals recorded the Kinks song. Was it on an album or just released as a single? Do you have it? Can you post it if you do? Thanks.

  • Yeah, it was just released as a single. If you want to hear it, there's a video on her of it by dipsetmuthafucka. Just search for it and you'll find it.

  • No they didn't record the Kinks song "I Need You". The Kinks song by that name was an up tempo rocker in the same vein as You Really Got Me and was the B side of Set Me Free. The Rationals song I Need You was a slow ballad that had nothing to do with the Kinks song.

  • In fact the Rationals recorded TWO DIFFERENT songs called "I Need You": one was the original ballad you mentioned, and the other was that Kinks cover. Interesting, huh?

  • The first song is an inferior remake of a song by Robert Parker called Barefootin'

Check out the original and you'll see what I mean

  • Whoah! This track and this version of this super tune is absolutely great. I really like the bass line and that killer ryhtm guitar. It´s the first time i been listening to this band but not the last time. I suppose the music is from the late 60s or early 70s? My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands that did´nt broak through during this period. Listen for example to THE ZETTLERS and their version of "Skinnie Minnie" and Beautiful Delilah". Really f...g good with a bloody driving beat!

  • @socrates1818 Really?

  • It's obviously written by Carole King - the writing style, brilliant that

  • I need to find a site to get these songs

  • This cat can sing!! Whoa! '. bye bye baby bye bye'

  • @blueblackred11 I agree they are the best songs to me
