Sorry I never heard of Lee Gates but I have now! Youtube is so awesome! This guy can really play, what an inspiration!! Just awesome!!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"
lee was a big influence on me back in the mid 80's. i was just starting out on lead guitar, and he would let me sit in. i still recall his advice - don't beat on it son, it's not a drum, play it like a musical instrument.
Lee is still phenominal!! I have been lucky enough to jam with Lee on several occassions at Kokopellis in West Allis and I can tell you the man is a guitar legend. He has come out for my birthday jam for years and taken the time to teach many of us quite a bit about the blues. He has several releases available through MusicMaker Foundation and iTunes. Definitely check them out.
Alright!! I just saw Lee, Stokes, Milwaukee Slim, and Blues Harp Jimmie down at Mamies on 33rd and National in milwaukee, WI 9/28/09. I had a good time with them they all played I was enjoying the sounds. Lee has been around for years I have learned a lot about guitar from watching him. Aberdeen Slim
Hell yeah! Is he still playing?
