The Obama administration announced their biggest stimulus project yet: a high speed rail line that will cost billions of dollars and hopefully create thousands of jobs. Chip Reid reports.
Why is this stupid idea a legitimate part of liberal energy policy? This is not Japan or Europe, we have real distances here. Except for the densely populated Northeast and parts of CA nobody rides a train......nobody!!!!
Search youtube videos under "Simitian High Speed Rail" if you think this is a well founded project. Time to wake up to the realities. HSR may not be all you think it is.
@gibb1991 I see. Well I can't say I know too much about ICE or TGV trainsets, but I have ridden on a 700 Series trainset and 300 Series trainset in the past. It really isn't that bad. In fact, I found it to be more comfortable than inside a plane(Economy in 747). I've looked at pictures of first class and economy seats in the N700 Series trainsets and they look quite comfortable. What's it like in a TGV or ICE3? Do you know if the AGV is operating yet?
@th3gtr Absloutely. Many companies that are foreign based are coming to the US to establish facilities to build the trains themselves, the most recent being Talgo Rail Industries. American construction companies will be constructing the systems. When I say 'luxury' I moreso mean compared to each other's trains. Japan's trains' interiors are designed like airplanes with smaller seats and smaller windows. Whereas Europe has larger seats, larger windows, and more services.
@gibb1991 Is there a chance that different HSR projects in the US contract different companies help build each system? Ex. CA may get make a contract with China or Japan Railway Central while East Coast makes a contract with Alstom or Siemens. What do you mean by luxurious? Do you mean the luxury of the trainsets? What about the train densities on the systems?
@th3gtr Yes, that's true. But Europe has a more vast a more luxurious network than that of Japan's. I think that's what is being aimed for when it comes to discribing the type of system being proposed in the States.
Oh my god, I hate it when people call high speed rail a European style rail system when the first one was started in Japan! Look it up people! 1964! >:(

I'm only for high-speed rails if theyre international standards for "high-speed" an average of 110mph is too slow.
