The orchestral excerpt which was being addressed in this lesson comes from the second movement ("The Story of the Kalender Prince") of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" (Op. 35). It is a standard excerpt for the bassoon; there is also a cadenza later in the movement, which was not played in this video.

i think the students tone is better than the teachers!

Darker sounds (like the students) lend well to up close playing. brighter sounds (like morelli's) lend well to projecting into the audience. Most players switch styles when playing with smaller chamber ensembles verses playing in large orchestra.
