No, you can use many programs like Windows Media Player, or even drag and drop files in windows explorer.

no, I've done my research and you can just drag files to youre vision:M i don;'t know bout the others

do you know if you have to use the creative program to put files on the vision: m, or not? i'm curious, since i've talked to people who have various other Creative Zen products, and some have said they have to use the program, and others said they haven't.

ZEN vision:M, im not an ipod hater but you can use all the extensions with the vision:m, and its WAY easier to put files on the zen than on a ipod

For me, I prefered Zen because they can natively play DivX and WMA movies, while iPod plays mpeg4 fiels and mp4 file in H264 codec, which is still uncommon. Both has similar spec on paper, so it's up to your preference or your style. But Zen users like myself are really envious about wide selection of iPod accessories, most of them now cheaply available....
