This is by far the fastest and easiest way to take down a radio tower. It may not be the safest!

  • Bummer ... what a waste !!

I'm sure somebody could have used that.

  • I took the demolition job to make money and scavenge any parts I might need. There weren't any so I sold it all as scrap and made a killing. I'm sure somebody somewhere would have preferred I gave this stuff to them, just as I prefer Bill Gates would give me a few million bucks. We can't always get our way!

  • I disagree. Selling large items that weigh a few hundred pounds on eBay is extremely time consuming when you factor in dealing with freight companies. The dishes were completely worthless to me as a ham operator but were easy cash from the scrap dealer. I not only was paid top dollar to remove the tower and related items, I was paid top dollar for the scrap. I'm sorry you feel I slighted you or the ham community somehow, but that's simply not my problem. Find your own tower and dishes!

  • The dish feeds are worth more than tower but all components could have been sold on eBay for more than scrap value, that's for sure...

  • @Rafmanne I'm sorry, but I value my free time. Next one I take down I'll be sure to contact you so you can fly out at your own expense and list the components for me. I'll cut you in for 5%.

  • We got several hundred dollars in scrap aluminum and copper (elliptical waveguide, mostly). The tower was cut up and also sold as scrap. All in all, we made out like a bandit. We went out prepared to take down an aluminum tower and found a VERY heavy steel tower on site. There was no safe way to use our flimsy jin pole so over it went.

  • @rdarlington no good part, you have no idea what you can do with those dish and a bag of small mirrors death ray!

  • @rdarlington you coulve saves that radio tower and dishes. hook it up to your ham radio in your back yard or something. (no joke seriously ive seen bigger)

  • It's a shame, second hand towers are hard to come by, but considering the work involved I certainly can't blame the guy for simply dropping the tower and selling the scrap, particularly if it was a cumbersome steel tower. Still, sad to see a good tower fall, but you can't fault him for doing it.

  • Man what a waste of a nice tower. :[ A lot of hams would love to have some tower like that.

  • Nice job! Simple, direct, safe and easy. Good on all fronts. :)

  • Me thinks you broken it...lol
