  • im about to get a mac book pro. They say its easy to use plus they say i dont have to worry about viruses. for my second OS i cant decide between ubuntu or xp. Im not a gamer, i just like to surf the net a lot, but i want my desktop to have very nice eye candy. Im looking at videos of ubuntu 7.10 which has plenty of eye candy. The thing is, im not familiar w/ ubuntu. How safe is it from viruses? do i have to add an anti-virus as well?

  • I use OSX for everything. The only reason I run parallels is because I'm a web developer. With that said, Ubuntu is very safe from virus and spyware.

  • Also you might want to check out VMWare's fusion It seems better for linux distros.

  • ya, i was thinking of using vmware cause some people recommend it. How easy to use is Ubuntu for someone thats not computer sharp like myself? sorry about all the questions, i just want my laptop to look as cool as possible and to make heads turn.

  • It easy to use if all you looking to do is web surf and use the pre-installed programs. It gets more complicated if you want to setup file sharing or install some weird programs.

  • 7.10 != Feisty.. duh, man

  • puts("I titled the youtube entry wrong but in the video it does state 7.04. I fixed it thanks.");

  • Fuck Ubuntu Linux ... it's too much like

    mircro$ux winbloz for my tast ... I switched

    to NetBSD and have never looked back ...

  • You can't install ubuntu 7.10 because all

    the disks they sent out were defective ...

  • im trying to install ubuntu 7.10 and it keeps freezing at

    "running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local)"

    I don't know anything about linux, just wanted to try something new after using windows and mac os for so long. I'm using parallels 3. I want to jump off a bridge because I can't install Linux and try it out.

    Goodbye cruel world.
