This is my honoring tribute to those that hold Mato Paha (Bear Butte) sacred, especially given its encroachment by Society in general...my photos put to my music played on Native American flutes I made...

  • Butte is the white man's term for this mountain...original Lakota name uses "Paha".

  • I've walked the same path brother, eventhough our skin is different, i still feel the magic of this place. Peace be with you and take care..WT

  • Skin color means nothing to me. Spirit and Heart determine who you are...and if you felt the magic there, then you are connected and a part of sacred All.

  • ethete,wasti,zhoni....sure good one!!

  • Pilamayaye, and a humble bow...may Mato Paha live forever.

  • This is how it should be...not with bikers tearing up the sacred land. It is a place of vision and prayer and offerings. It is Sacred.

  • Growing up in the shadow of Bear Butte was very an good experience for me! WT

  • I am white and discovered Bear Butte by accident and it was one of the most memorable places I have ever seen. I walked the trail, but did not say a word or make a sound - it was obvious that the highest level of respect was required. I did not try to make up my own rituals or pretend in some way to be native or "spiritual" as some other non-native people were doing. However, to this day, I don't know if I was wrong to visit. I am very sad to hear about the endless challenges to Bear Butte.

  • The Cheyenne own the Black Hills, this is fact. The Medicine arrow people, and the a sacred hat people. Both Cheyenne.

  • Dosen't paha mean hill not butte
