My barrelponics system is 99% complete. Here I show you the guts of the system and how it works.'

This barrel aquaponics system uses fish that produce waste into the water which in turn is pumped into the grow beds where a bacteria converts the ammonia (fish waste) into nitrates. These nitrates are absorbed by the plants as fertilizers and the plants clean the water that is now being returned to the fish.

  • THAT is cruel to the Gold Fish.. Someone should stick you in a dark barrel to live your life!

  • @teomeimf Lol dark? I doubt it. When the sun goes down, I guess. Lets not get carried away. Besides sticking a human in a barrel against his will is illegal. I don't advocate illegal acts.

  • ola amigo moro no brasil e estou implantando este sistema maravilhoso no meu quintal como voce fez este sifao automatico ?????

  • @leanddrin Isso é ótimo. Espero para ver o seu sistema quando terminar de construí-la :)

  • Could you please give a brief explanation in the video description of what a barrelponics system is for the complete lamen like myslef? I just happened upon this video after looking up wicking beds.

  • @teomeimf Because fish don't live in deep water in a natural habitat, these fish are getting more light in that barrel than they would in their natural state. Please quit placing human emotion on fish, so stupid.

  • @teomeimf You are a loser.

  • Very interesting. Could you please explain the mechanics behind the bell valve drain you constructed? How does it work? Hod did you make it?

    Thanks much,

    Chris.

  • To fix your flow problem, you should get rid of the dual outflow. Make a gravity system where one barrel overflows into the other. Place one barrel higher than the other and place the outflow from the fish into that higher barrel. Make a drain for overflow into the other lower barrel. The lower barrel then drains into the fish.

  • other ways to keep barrel from spreading in the middle: drill a small hole on either side and A)straighten a coat hanger, some bailing wire or B) use a piece of all thread with fender washers and nuts

  • Great Video, looking forward to the one on making the Ball Anti Siphon valve. I am using my old Jacuzzi as my fish tank. Only have gold fish in it now.

I have twelve Frontier Hydroponic 3.5 gallon buckets with Net Pot baskets fed by the Frontier Ebb and Flow Controller brain. The whole thing sits on 1/2 of the foam insulated cover. I have a pump in the fish tank which fills my Controller bucket. It in turn pushes the nutrient water from the fish tank into the Grow buckets.
