Designed by the father of computing in 1847 but never built -- until recently. This is the second of only two Babbage difference engines in the world, completed in 2008 and located at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA until the end of this year.

(Edited using Final Cut Pro X, which crashed every 5 minutes.)

  • i want one!, overclock it with a v8...

  • Thanks for posting this. Great vid!

  • It is beautiful.

  • @wackywankavator Nothing about the helical shape of some of the parts suggests the double helix structure of DNA.

  • Is it just me or does the back of the machine scream double helix. Over a hundred years before it was confirmed by Watson and Crick?

  • I'm allways impressed how a man can invent this kind of machine. It must have taken forever just to figure out how it should work and look like.

  • Nice video. Seen this a little on "The Machine that changed the world" that was grate. You edit this one nice. Doing the video with him talking when you got the video when he was not. So it all fits good. Nice video of it. I can tell you like this. I think I would take a video like this if I could see it. Thank you!
