Responding to an assertion by former congressional delegate Walter Fauntroy that the tea party movement has declared war on civil rights, Mychal Massie of Project 21 discusses the political diversity of tea party activists and suggests Fauntroy was "intentionally disingenuous, intentionally dishonest or if indeed he is ignorant of the facts."

Massie suggests Fauntroy, a founding member of the race-exclusive Congressional Black Caucus, may have "lost sight that people can agree on a common cause... irrespective of the color of their skin."

The Project 21 black leadership network is a program of The National Center for Public Policy Research. This "empty chair debate" in which Fauntroy failed to appear took place on 2/28/11 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
