Legend of Zelda (NES) Unusual Glitch

So I bought a new NES on Sunday (well, not new, but it did have the box with it), and to try it out, I played some Zelda.There were two files on here - Damian's and mine - when I started, and, after a few weird glitches, I ended up with... well, this.

I'm not sure what's going on here. It's like it forgot how many heart containers I had. I can't get bombs by any means, though I've found out I can get the boomerang. I'm on the second quest, though I have no memory of finishing the first one on here (that might be because I can finish the first quest in my sleep). There's no way for me to explain any of this. I'm not sure if it can be reproduced on an emulator or a cartridge.

What happened here?

(Also, please forgive the "recording-the-screen" nature of this and the shaky camera work - Adam can't take video for squat, and my iPod was the only camera we had handy. And ignore the heavy breathing - that's Adam, since he had to hold the iPod pretty close to himself to get a good look at what the video looked like while he was shooting. And also, he is fat)

This is most likely a corrupt save file. A lot of things could cause this including, the battery running out of juice, turning off/reseting the Nintendo while it's saving, and more. Interesting exploration of how the game interpreted the corruption though.
